OIP: No, think about it: why would people a hundred years ago wear compact coats or sweaters, and now everything has to be so puffy, or thick?
Self: I don't know, maybe people really were tougher back then or something. You know, walking to school uphill both ways and all that...?
OIP: It's so that manufacturers can make everything out of plastic, which costs nothing, instead of wool and leather. That's why we all have to walk around looking like we were inflated with a bicycle pump. So they have a bigger profit margin.
